Spiritual warfare is a daily reality for believers, and the enemy gains access to our lives when we disobey God and create distance from Him. This spiritual vacuum allows dark forces to establish strongholds through lies and deception that we unknowingly agree with. Common strongholds include spirits of fear, bondage, pride, lying, and heaviness that manifest as anxiety, addiction, controlling behavior, and depression. Christians cannot be possessed since the Holy Spirit dwells within our spirit, but our minds and souls can still be influenced by unclean spirits. The solution is found in James 4: submit to God, resist the devil using His Word and the name of Jesus, and he will flee. Victory is available through Christ's authority over all spiritual forces.
